The RSL, as a whole, was founded in 1916 to provide support to Australia’s Veterans and their families, as well as comradeship.
We have a branch network that covers Australia and any veteran who needs help will get it – every serving Australian Defence Force member and veteran will be warmly welcomed at their local RSL.
We advocate for the best possible conditions for our serving men and women and for those who have served the nation in the past.
We foster respect and thanks from the nation for all those who have made sacrifices in Australia’s name and we will provide a strong voice on issues of national unity and security.
George Town RSL Sub-Branch is located at 44 Macquarie Street, George Town. We have a research computer to assist you in both family and military history research. Why not call in and see what you can find out.
George Town is the oldest town in Australia having been settled in 1804. At that time, it was under the operational command of one of Macquarie’s Regiments from either NSW or the UK. The area was settled as a convict settlement, with a Watch House (small prison) being established with the town. During the 19th Century, a Female Factory also existed in George Town.
